Emi is visiting us this month. She's been in California for a couple of years, but I wanted to tap her Japanese cuisine expertise so we went to (what I thought) was one of the more authentic Japanese restaurants in town.

Our sushi chef was Greek and when I asked our waitress if anyone there spoke Japanese, she said no. Another sushi chef must have noticed us, because he came over and asked to help. He was Asian and I asked if they had a menu in Japanese? He disappeared for a while, made a short phone call, and then came back to say that he's checked with some other people and the word "menu" is the same in Japanese that it is in English.  I explained that we actually wanted a menu that is written in Japanese to look something up, to which he finally replied, "Beats me, I'm Korean."
