Washington D.C.

June 29-30, 2018

I hadn't even pulled up to the gate at BWI when I got a text from Lisa - "Can I call you?" She just found out from the rental truck agency that, despite having made a reservation weeks ago, there were no moving trucks to be found within a 100-mile radius of Washington DC.

Lisa had been fairly confident all along that all her things could fit into a minivan, and now we were going to put that to the test. (Spoiler alert, she was right). I was able to make a last minute one-way reservation for a minivan at the airport and the adventure began.

We distracted ourselves for a few hours with dinner and some last-minute sightseeing and then headed back to Lisa's attic apartment to begin the task of packing and moving her things.

Although Lisa's lived in a third floor attic (and the steps up to her floor were very narrow and very steep), we had no major mishaps. That night, we moved a few dozen boxes and several suitcases downstairs.

The larger items - a queen size bed and bedframe, small refrigerator, floor length mirror and a few more boxes - stayed upstairs until morning.

The extreme heat motivated us to wake up at sunrise -- and the rest of the work went surprisingly fast. Except for the refrigerator, which we gave away, everything all fit inside or was tied onto the top luggage rack. Then, Lisa did one final cleaning and we were on the road heading north before noon.
