Mackinac Island, Michigan

September 18, 2023

For two summers when I was in college, I lived in northern California and worked at the Mackinac Island fudge booth at the Sonoma County Fair.

At the time, I was told this was the only licensed company to make the fudge – with the same recipe and fudge-making technique using copper pots to cook, marble slabs to cool and wooden paddles to form the loaf – as is done at the Original Murdick’s Fudge store on Mackinac Island.

Today, on our way to the Upper Peninsula, we took the ferry out to visit the charming island.

Watching the fudge being made was a trip down memory lane for sure.

We had a great time walking around the main street area (no cars on the island), dining at the Pink Pony, visiting a beautiful church and poking around in the shops.
