What we thought would be a modest architectural tour of a home in the country turned out to be something quite, well, bizzare. One website describes it as:

An exotic and eclectic creation of collections, displays, and galleries, House on the Rock is a dazzling retreat built in 1960 by Alex Jordan atop a chimney of rock in scenic Southern Wisconsin.

Marvel at the world’s largest carousel, experience America’s past with a stroll down the Streets of Yesterday, and make your way through the Galleries, a “collection of collections” featuring everything from suits of armor to ivory carvings. A walk through the Infinity Room extending an astonishing 218 feet, leads to awe-inspiring views of the valley below.

Alex used to explain his sprawling creation by saying “one thing just sort of led to another.”
