A historic heat wave shattered temperature records across the state this weekend. Even here in Monte Rio, we hit triple digits for a couple of days in a row. One of the strange things that happened was that the river, which was mostly clear in the morning, became covered with algal blooms by mid-afternoon, a carpet of green that stretched from bank to bank.  After two days, the temps started to drop here and we were able to enjoy dinner outside.
