Syracuse, New York

Tipperary's upside-down traffic light (the only one in the nation)
derives from Syracuse’s proud Irish heritage. The locals wouldn't stand
for British red sitting on top of Irish green. They repeatedly threw
stones to break the lights. Eventually, the city's council relented, and
an upside-down traffic light has directed cars at Tipperary Hill ever
since. It was our introduction to a surprisingly fun and interesting city. |
