The tradition of the famous Peppermint Pig started in the 1880s with candy makers in Saratoga Springs as a festive way to celebrate the holidays. This year, Lisa brought one home for Christmas (although the small metal hammer in the velvet pouch was nearly seized by TSA agents at the Albany airport). The candy pig is placed in the velvet bag and smashed with the hammer. Legend has it that everyone who enjoys a piece of the peppermint candy will enjoy good health, happiness, and prosperity in the year ahead. Let's hope so. Video
