Helper, Utah

November 1, 2021

The town got its name from the fleet of ‘helper’ engines that were stationed at the bottom of the canyon, ready to assist the trains on their way to Soldier Summit. With the steep grade of the canyon, the steam engines were unable to climb the canyon without help.

Today, the town is reinventing itself as an arts center and tourist attraction. We loved walking up and down Main Street with its charming storefronts and vintage signs. The beautifully restored Conoco gas station and adjacent auto parts store are just some of many buildings in Helper that's are now offered as Airbnbs. It would have been so much fun to know this ahead of time and spend one of our nights there. Maybe next time.
