Most of the Linda Vista kids lived in the flatlands, but a few had homes high in the hills. At the time, I felt sorry for Becca and Kevin, living so far away from the rest of us. Every play date required a mom to drive us up the hill or them down to us.

Fast forward to now. Kevin and Michael have moved into the house that their architect dad Lyman built in the 1960s and are taking care to carefully restore it.

They invited me to lunch and we spent most of the afternoon talking about many of the unique parts of the house, the challenges to modernize parts of it, the neighborhood and growing up there.

I remembered the flower designs in the steep concrete driveway, but assumed it was a '60s thing. And I had never noticed the ceiling in the living room. Both are a nod to Matisse, one of their father's favorite artists.
