Oakland, California - Honolulu, Hawaii

We had been hearing for months that Southwest Airlines was preparing to start service from California to Hawaii. But there has been no official announcement about flights, times and prices yet. As luck would have it though, a few months ago I was making reservations for another trip. As I was scrolling through the pull-down menu of airports, something caught my eye: Honolulu.   At that time, the only California city with flights was Oakland - and that didn't seem particularly convenient. But I clicked on a date in mid-June when I knew both Katie and Lisa would be out of school and saw that tickets were $49 each way. Suddenly, Oakland seemed a lot more convenient. I quickly purchased two roundtrip tickets for me and Lisa, and then added Katie for free, thanks to my companion pass this year.It's going to be a quick trip - just four nights. But a nice way to kick off the summer (and a heck of a good deal). By the way, the advertisements for the flights started later that morning and the cheap seats went quickly.
