As the two opening acts performed, we couldn't help by notice that
several of private boxes on the sides of the Dolby Theater were empty.
Then, before Ben Platt came on stage, Katie went to see if the doors to
the boxes were locked or had attendants waiting outside. They didn't. We waited until ten minutes into the show and then Katie started fake coughing and we quickly left our regular seats. Two attendants were standing on one side of the lobby, so we headed over to the other side. Still coughing, I grabbed her a drink from the bar and then we casually headed down the other hallway. The first two rooms that Katie checked had people in them. But the third was empty. We had an elaborate story about Katie's cough and wanting not to disturb others, but it wasn't needed. No one ever came to sit in the room, or to check on us -- and so we lucked out and watched Ben perform up close and personal. |
